Early testing of a new quay Russian SSBN

The submarine ballistic missile Russian "Vladímir Monomak", the third Project 955 Borei, began testing platform, today announced the Sevmash shipyard, the submarine manufacturer.

"The SSBN Vladímir Monomak was launched and began testing platform," the statement said.

The new submarine will be equipped with nuclear missiles Bulava, must be with other Borei SSBNs, the core of Russian nuclear forces in the 21st century.

The sea trials Vladímir Monomak are planned for next spring.

To date, the construction of three Project 955 Borei SSBNs is complete: the Yury
Dolgoruky, delivered to the Russian Navy on January 10, the Alexandr Nevsky current official tests and which will enter into service in 2013.


The 4th submarine Príncipe Vladímir will be an improved type, the project 955A. In total, Russia plans to build by 2020 eight submarines of the Borei class, 3 of Project 955 and 955A 5.
