Syrian MiG Fighter Jet Defects to Jordan

A Syrian Air Force MiG-21 fighter pilot has flown his aircraft to Jordan and landed at an air force base, Jordan's Minister of Media Affairs and Communications Samih Maaytah said on Thursday, adding the pilot asked the Jordanian government for political asylum.
The plane was escorted by Royal Jordanian Air Force jetfighters soon after it entered the Jordanian airspace and was guided to the base where it landed safely, according to military sources quoted by the Jordan Times.
"The jetfighter landed at 10:45am and the government is currently considering the pilot's request," Maaytah told The Jordan Times, without elaborating further.
Syrian state news agency SANA reported earlier that radio contact had been lost with the single-seat aircraft.
The pilot was named as Hassan Hammadeh in a SANA report quoted by Xinhua.

Indian MIG-21 Crashes In Rajasthan, Pilot Dies

A MiG-21 fighter aircraft today crashed soon after taking off from Naal airfield in Rajasthan's Bikaner district killing the pilot.

"The pilot ejected but died due to injuries sustained by him," defence spokesperson SD Goswami told PTI.

The MiG-21 Flying Coffins  aircraft was on a routine sortie and crashed near the airfield, which is about 15 kms from Bikaner city, he said.

This is the second crash of a MiG series fighter aircraft this year. On February 4, an IAF MiG-21 'Bison' fighter plane had crashed apparently due to an engine problem while on a routine sortie in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district but the pilot had ejected safely.

In 2010, a total of 10 IAF aircraft crashes took place including four MiG-27 and two MiG-21 planes
