Russian army adopts new aircraft generation 4 + +

The new Russian 5th generation fighter T-50, destined to become the main force of the Air Force in the country, is currently undergoing extensive testing. Meanwhile, the Russian Air Force actively buying heavy fighters Sukhoi Su-35 aircraft classified 4 + + generation.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has recently said in a statement that the Air Force would receive in 2013 under an administrative contract, 12 multirole fighter latest Su-35S. Sukhoi group that built these planes, the air force already sold two fighters of this type in 2011 and another six in 2012. However, the production of these aircraft will be doubled in 2013.

According to the official spokesman for the Russian Air Force, Colonel Vladimir Drik, air forces are considering buying about 90 Su-35S. Russian Defense has acquired total, since 2008, 244 Sukhoi fighters and bombers.

The Su-35 (Flanker E + or, according to NATO classification) is a multi-role fighter high maneuverability 4 + + generation. This generation is a relative concept used to say that most of the technical characteristics of the aircraft, except stealth, are close to those of airplanes latest fifth generation.

The construction of the first Su-35S series was launched in 2006. In summer 2007, Sukhoi developed the first prototype of the aircraft, which was presented on the floor in the Salon MAKS international aerospace Moscow. Testing the new model began in early 2008 and already in 2009, Sukhoi signed a contract with the Defence for the delivery of Su-35S, for the supply of 48 hunters this type between 2012 and 2015.The parties intend to sign another agreement for the period 2015 to 2020.

In June 2010, Sukhoi said preliminary tests of the aircraft had been successfully completed, confirming the proven performance-board equipment and high maneuverability of the hunter, who was now ready to undergo formal operational tests involving drivers Air Force.

Russia's fourth T-50 prototype aircraft performs first long-range flight

The fourth T-50 multirole fighter aircraft prototype of the Russian Air Force has performed its first long-range test flight at Sukhoi's manufacturing plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Khabarovsk Krai, Russia .

The aircraft made multiple intermediate stops while travelling from the Komsomolsk-on-Amur facility to the airport at the M.M. Gromov Flight Research Institute in Zhukovsky, near Moscow, without showing any impact on engines, systems or equipment performance.

The initial test flight of the fifth-generation aircraft was conducted at Sukhoi's KnAAPO aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur in December 2012, during which the aircraft flew for 40 minutes and landed on the factory runway, demonstrating its capability in all phases of the planned flight programme.

The test flight also evaluated the aircraft's stability, the power plant system's performance and reliability and the safe operation of all systems and components.

Developed as part of Moscow's Future Aviation System for Tactical Air Force (PAK FA) programme, the Sukhoi T-50 is a twin-engine jet fighter designed to replace the air force's ageing MiG-29 Fulcrum and Su-27 Flanker aircraft fleet.

Russian fifth-generation jet fighter takes off

The decision to introduce the new fighter is long overdue: the United State launched it seven years ago and China is also trying to keep pace.

The Russian Armed Forces will soon put into service the fifth-generation T-50 PAK FA jet fighter (Prospective Airborne Complex of Frontline Aviation). The decision to introduce the new fighter is long overdue: the United State launched the F-22 Raptor seven years ago. China is also trying to keep pace, as it has started testing its own fifth-generation fighter.

In late December, Viktor Bondarev, Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force, said that the trials of the fifth-generation PAK FA fighters would start at the testing facility in Akhtubinsk in March 2013.

“Three machines are being tested at Zhukovsky Airfield in the Moscow region, the fourth fighter is undergoing factory tests, and the fifth one is ready for acceptance. In March, the five machines will fly to Akhtubinsk to begin government testing. The rest of the machines will be delivered there from the factory. By the end of 2013, eight T-50 fighters will have been accepted following trials in Akhtubinsk,” said the general.

According to Bondarev, the tests of advanced fighters will take 2-2.5 years. In 2015-2016, the T-50 will be delivered to active Air Force units.

The T-50 is equipped with an all-new avionics complex and an advanced radar station with a phased antenna. The plane made its maiden flight to Komsomolsk-on-Amur on 29 January 2010; the fighter was officially presented to the public on 17 August 2011 at the MAKS 2011 International Aviation & Space Salon in Zhukovsky near Moscow.

Many of the T-50’s technical features are classified, however based on data received from public sources, specialists insist that the PAK FA is ahead of its foreign peers based on a few important features, including maximum speed (both using afterburners and without them), ferry range, thrust/weight ratio, and maximum g-load.


The T-50 is operated by a single pilot. The machine has a maximum speed of 2,600 kilometres per hour. Its ferry range is 4,300 kilometres at altitudes of up to 20 kilometres. With a maximum takeoff weight of 37 tons, the fighter is capable of carrying up to 10 tons of armaments, including the GSh-30-1 30 mm cannon, guided missiles of various types and ranges, as well as precision guided bombs. Up to eight external and ten internal suspension points can be installed to attach armaments. More than ten innovative types of weapons have been developed for the PAK FA.

The Russian 5th generation fighter will be tested in March


The Russian fighter 5th generation Sukhoi T-50 (PAK FA) will be tested state in March 2013, announced to reporters Sunday the commander of the Russian Air Force Viktor Bondarev.

Sukhoi T-50 Stealth Fighter Completes Tanker Plug Trial

Russian fighter maker Sukhoi's T-50 fifth-generation stealth fighter has completed initial approach trials to a flight refuelling aircraft, the company said on Tuesday.

The aircraft, T-50-2, made approaches to an Il-78 tanker in company with a Su-25UB trainer/strike aircraft.
The second prototype, T-50-2 is currently conducting a range of flight trials to test the new plane's flight envelope in subsonic and supersonic regimes and in different configurations.
The first prototype, T-50-1, is undertaking preparation for a flight test program involving flight at super-critical angles of attack and super-maneuverability.
In August, T-50-3 will start full tests of the aircraft's new active phased-array radar system and avionics, which the company says has already shown impressive results in air-to-air and air-to-ground tests.

Fifth gen fighter aircraft to be unveiled in India by 2014

New Delhi: The initial version of a fighter plane, being jointly developed by India and Russia and tipped to be one of the most-advanced in the world, will be unveiled in India in 2014.

The Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) with stealth features is slated to be inducted in the Indian Air Force by 2022.

The two sides are close to signing a key contract expected to be worth over USD 11 billion for research and development phase of the project in the near future.

"The first prototype of the FGFA is scheduled to arrive in India by 2014 after which it will undergo extensive trials at the Ojhar air base (Maharashtra)...We are hopeful that the aircraft would be ready for induction by 2022," IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne told a news agency. 

The IAF Chief was in Russia in the second week of August where he reviewed the progress made in the programme and the prototypes of the aircraft developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau at Zhukovsky there.

The second prototype will arrive in India in 2017 and the third prototype will arrive in 2019. Based on the experience of test-flights of the each prototype, the final version of the FGFA would be developed for operational service, Browne said.

India plans to acquire 214 of these fighter planes by the end of 2030 at an estimated cost of over USD 30 billion.

Russia has already developed three prototypes of the aircraft which are being used for carrying out test-flights. The aircraft will have stealth features and its size would be smaller than that of the frontline Su-30 MKI.

The design of the aircraft is expected to be finalised by the two sides later this year. The two sides had signed an agreement for the design of the plane last year.

Sukhoi begins testing onboard radar system for T-50 aircraft

The Sukhoi Company began flight tests of the 5th generation fighter aircraft (PAK FA or T-50) with a unique on-board active phased array radar system. In the course of the ground and flight tests of the
 T-50-3 prototype the radar “air-to-air” and “air-to-surface” test modes in the first experiments showed a stable and effective performance comparable with the most advanced existing radar systems.

The further development of these capabilities was confirmed. The optical channels tests have begun.
The radar has been developed by the Moscow-based Tikhomirov Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Design using locally made elements of nanotechnology. It incorporates advanced antenna systems technology with electronically controlled beam.

Russia will start mass production of its latest generation of fighter aircraft PAKFA T-50


Russia will mass produce fifth generation PAKFA T-50 fighters from 2015, Air Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Victor Bondarev said Monday, August 6, 2012. He said the PAKFA T-50, which is intended to succeed the MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters for the next 30 years, will be produced in volume after 2015.
 The SU-35, the cutting-edge jet fighter of the four-plus-plus generation, will go in mass production from as early as 2013, Bondarev added.

Russian AF to Get First T-50 Fighters in 2013 - RIA Novosti

The Russian Air Force will receive the first batch of prototypes of its fifth-generation T-50 fighter for performance testing in 2013, Col. Gen. Alexander Zelin said on Thursday.
The T-50, developed under the PAK FA program (Future Aviation System for Tactical Air Force) at the Sukhoi experimental design bureau, is Russia's first new major warplane designed since the fall of the Soviet Union.
“The work on the fifth-generation fighter is going according to schedule,” Zelin, a former Air Force commander, told a news conference in Voronezh (central Russia). “The third prototype has joined the testing program and the fourth is being built.”
The T-50 made its maiden flight in January 2010 and three prototypes have since been undergoing flight tests.
Zelin earlier said that the number of T-50 aircraft involved in testing would be increased to 14 by 2015.
The fighter was first shown to the public in August 2011, in Zhukovsky near Moscow, at the MAKS-2011 air show.

Indian Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) Fifth Generation Stealth Fighter Jet Program Cleared

India has reportedly cleared a fifth generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA)to be developed by 2017 whose total cost is estimated at $2bn.
According to a news report in The Hindu newspaper, the Govt of India has released Rs. 100 crore($20 million) last month to the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), an Indian government controlled research body which has also developed the LCA Tejus fourth generation fighter.
"AMCA, when developed and produced, would probably be the first medium combat aircraft with 20 tonne weight in the world. Similar aircraft being developed by the United States and Russia are in the range of 30 to 35 tonnes," PS Subramanyam, ADA Director and Programme Director (Combat Aircraft), was quoted as saying in the news report.
 The AMCA is to be a twin-engined 5th generation stealth multirole fighter, which will complement the HAL Tejas, the Sukhoi/HAL FGFA, the Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and other aircraft in the Indian Air Force.

Glimpse of PAK-DA Russian next generation strategic bomber

The PAK DA (or PAK-DA), is a next generation strategic bomber which is being developed by Kazan Aircraft Production Association for Russia. It stands for Perspektivnyi Aviatsionnyi Kompleks Dalney Aviatsyi (Перспективный авиационный комплекс дальней авиации in Russian) which means Prospective Air Complex for Long Range Aviation. The PAK DA will be a new, stealthy, strategic bomber and is expected to enter service in the 2025–30 timeframe

Chengdu J-20



The predecessors of the J-20 are the Chengdu J-10, Shenyang J-11, Shenyang J-15 and the JF-17 Thunder. NATO was aware of the development of the J-20 and gave it the codename J-XX.

On December 22, 2010, the J-20 was under going high speed taxi tests at its Chengdu facility with no confirmed flight tests yet; however, it has been reported that top level officials are coming to the Chengdu facility to witness the first flight test.

The J-20, which appears to be somewhat larger and heavier than the comparable Sukhoi T-50 and Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, is a single-seat, twin-engine aircraft.
