The Ministry of Defence signed a contract for 17 years with Astrium and its partner Actia Sodelec for the implementation of satellite communications for very high-speed military.
This contract, called Comcept, allow military exchange from the second half of 2014, data, video, and telephone communications technology IP (internet protocol) operations in and outside the country.
The contract provides for term 660 ground stations. The first twenty stations were commissioned in December. Comcept will complement the existing network of satellites Syracuse French armies. It will use the Franco-Italian satellite Athena-Fidus, manufactured by Thales Alenia Space (a joint venture of the
French Thales and Italy's Finmeccanica) and to be launched this year, and the transmission capacity of commercial satellites.
