Russia wants to know what tasks are fulfilled by NATO in Afghanistan after 2014, said Monday the head of Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov in Brussels after a meeting with the Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
"At present, NATO is trying to define its mission in Afghanistan after 2014, when it will withdraw from the country, leaving behind only a small contingent, to train Afghan personnel and provide consultations," said the minister told reporters.
He added that Russia wanted to understand what the main mission of the Alliance in Afghanistan after 2014.
"We are interested, of course, because we sometimes hear voices pleading again for a joint territorial defense, as the main mission of NATO," said Lavrov.
