Defections in the Syrian army

A Syrian general, two colonels and several officers and 33 soldiers have deserted the Syrian army and arrived in Turkey, CNN-Turk said. This defection brings to 13 the number of defections from Syrian generals on Turkish soil, the Anatolia news agency said.

The general, whose agency did not specify the identity nor the functions, Turkey entered into by the province of Hatay in the company of soldiers and their families, a total group of 196 people with many women and children, according to Anatolia.

Refugee camps Turkish provinces of Hatay, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa and Kilis currently hosting 33,079 Syrians who fled the violence in their country, according to a statement released Monday by the Directorate of crisis situations (AFAD).

Tension mounts between Turkey and Syria since the destruction by Syria Friday for a Turkish military aircraft. The Turkish government held a meeting in Ankara on Monday about the incident air Friday and called Tuesday for a NATO meeting intended to adopt a position with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

Turkey, once political and economic ally of Syria, has cut ties with the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, to protest against the repression of opposition movements in this country.

It harbors in the south direction of the Syrian Army free (ASL), founded by deserters from the Syrian army, and hosts regular meetings of the Syrian National Council (CNS), the main platform of Syrian opposition.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation warns against the risk of wider conflict

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) warned against the repercussions of the Syrian throughout the region, at a special meeting Sunday evening the Executive Committee of the Pan-Islamic organization. "The situation in Syria could lead to a civil war that would make thousands of additional victims and the effects of which could affect the entire region," said the Turk, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.

"The OIC has taken care not to interfere in the affairs of a Member State (...) but the deteriorating security situation, repression and death of thousands of children and women led to internationalize the crisis, "he added.

The meeting of the executive committee of seven of the 57 OIC member should be devoted to consideration of the situation in Syria, Sudan and the African Sahel. All delegates were invited to participate, including Syrian and Iranian, who tried unsuccessfully to block the discussion of the Syrian crisis.
