A nuclear submarine attack British had emergency back its home port for repairs after suffering a radioactive leak.
HMS Tireless was launched 30 years ago, participated in a training exercise for new officers, 10 days ago, when its nuclear reactor experienced a serious problem.
The submarine, which belongs to the class Trafalgar, was ordered to return to Faslane naval base, where experts have inspected the leak. He has now returned to its home port, Devonport, and will spend 10 months in dry dock for repairs.
Launched in 1984, HMS Tireless was to be decommissioned this year, but it was extended for four years due to the delay in the release of the new submarines of the Astute class.
In May 2000, he was already stuck in Gibraltar for 12 months after a radioactive leak. There had been a leak in the cooling system of the reactor.
A spokesman for the Royal Navy said: "HMS Tireless returned to Devonport Naval Base last week for repairs after a small leak of coolant, which was contained within the sealed compartment reactor. There is no risk to the public, the environment or the crew. '
