More PAR systems for France

French military procurement agency DGA has ordered precision approach radar systems for the French air force from Italy's Selex ES.

Six systems -- in the fixed 2090CF version -- plus system logistics support are covered under the $29.8 million contract.

The French air force already operates 15 PAR systems.

"The new contract represents an important success for the ... company, confirming the reliability of the precision approach radar and the confidence of the customer toward Selex ES and its products," the company said.

Selex ES' precision approach radar is an x-band system that enables precise instrument landings possible in inclement weather and poor visibility conditions. It has a field of view of 10 degrees in elevation and it can manage as many as 32 aircraft simultaneously.

Selex said the system comes in naval and land variants and that 50 systems are being operated by several countries.
