Embraer Defense and Security selects the inertial navigation system and the new generation of GPS Thales to equip the KC-390

Embraer Defense and Security has awarded Thales a contract to supply an inertial navigation system and GPS to equip the military transport aircraft KC-390.

The inertial reference system HPIRS (High Performance Inertial Reference System) developed by Thales offers a real breakthrough in the field of inertial navigation: it indeed combines the strengths of a product certified civil and expected performance for military aircraft.

This revolutionary system is distinguished by abilities and navigation performance quite unique, allowing military aircraft to conduct their missions in all weather, with an exceptional level of safety.

Moreover, thanks to its unique architecture and modular, the HPIRS significantly reduces costs and life cycle maintenance and installs on a wide range of aircraft both civilian and military.

"The GPS systems HPIRS and Thales will provide the KC-390 unique capabilities and contribute to the success of this program. A rigorous selection process allowed us to distinguish the Thales solution as most appropriate for the KC-390, "said Eduardo Bonini Santos Pinto, Senior Vice President of Operations and COO of Embraer Defense and Security.

"We are very proud to have been selected by Embraer. This decision reflects the technological breakthrough made by Thales in the field of inertial navigation and GPS. We are excited to contribute to the success of the KC-390 and thus strengthen the relationship that binds us to Embraer, "a delighted Dominique Giannoni, Vice-President of the Business Line of Thales Air Defence.

Embraer is developing the KC-390 contract with the Brazilian Air Force. Flight tests are planned in 2014 and first deliveries expected in 2016.
