"The flight tested the aircraft's overall integrity and its main engines. The aircraft is making a good impression in all phases of the flying programme," Sukhoi said.

The T-50, which will be the core of Russia's future fighter fleet, is a fifth-generation multi-role fighter aircraft featuring low-observable technology (stealth), super-manoeuverability, supercruise capability (supersonic flight without use of afterburner), and an advanced avionics suite including an X-band active phased-array radar.

New Putin limo unveiled

After six full years of development, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin finally has a car more beautiful than U.S. President Barack Obama's, the ZiL auto company announced.

A ZIL-4112P prototype, with a 7.7 litre engine and six-speed automatic transmission, was unveiled to federal television channels on Sunday just months after Putin ordered government departments to seek appropriately patriotic, domestic alternatives to the mostly German foreign brands he and other top government officials have become accustomed to being driven around in.
“We tried to preserve the generic feature of the ZiL: the recognizable style, the lighting, the mirrors. We wanted it to be clear that this is a ZiL, not a soapbox, not a Mercedes. If you look, its dark blue. If you look at what Obama drives around in its a scary submarine, no kind of aesthetic, it's awful to look at,” ZiL's Director of Limousine Production Mikhail Sattarov told Channel 1.

Soviet nostalgia has not sacrificed modern comforts, however. The interior features leather seats, worktables, and the pride of the ZiL: a big screen hooked up to an external video camera that allows passengers to see where they are going even with the curtains drawn. It also boasts specialist security features — “know-how that no-one else has,” according to Sattarov — to guarantee the safety of both driver and passenger.

Fuel consumption has also been improved to 25 litres per 100 kilometres. The late Communist Party chief Leonid Brezhnev's limo was said to guzzle a fearsome 65 litres.

The launch of the vehicle marks a new dawn not only for the driving comfort of Kremlin officials, but also for ZiL itself.

Russia’s Pantsir-S System Downs Cruise Missile in Test

Two missiles fired from a Pantsir-S short-range air defense system shot down a cruise missile during tests at a practice range in northern Russia on Friday, the Defense Ministry said.

A real cruise missile was launched from a Tu-95MS Bear strategic bomber targeting a building 800 kilometers (500 miles) away.

“The Pantsir-S hit the target with two missiles and prevented the destruction of the defended building,” the Ministry said in a statement.

“The live firing practice at the Pemboy range has confirmed high performance characteristics of the new air defense system,” the statement said.

The system has previously only been tested against practice targets imitating cruise missiles.

Cruise missiles represent a difficult target as they are small, fast-moving, can fly at very low levels and often have a low infrared and radar signature.

Russian warheads spend American money

Moscow wants to close the U.S. program of liquidation of weapons of mass destruction Russian media reported. Russia is able to finance itself the removal of its nuclear arsenal. Especially that American aid has become an instrument of political pressure and the Americans had access to too large Russian nuclear secrets.

The micro Viktor Baranets, Russian military expert:

"Under the pretext of helping to destroy the ammunition, the U.S. had an almost full access to all deposits and all databases that store our nuclear weapons. Under the pretext of helping, the U.S. has installed equipment on the nuclear weapons. It went to become absurd, because the American specialists were passing Russian officers lie detector to see if they could be dealing with nuclear weapons. "

A question arises: if the conditions were so much disadvantageous to Russia, why the Kremlin has accepted also by extending the agreement twice? The political situation is certainly much. Russian foreign policy in the 1990s was far pro-Western. In addition, at the time of signing the agreement, Moscow had neither dse ability or financial means. However, it was necessary to destroy the missiles because Russia had made commitments at the international level.

Deputy PM Repeats Call For Hypersonic Bomber

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin repeated his appeal on Monday for Russia to develop a hypersonic aircraft for its PAK-DA long-range bomber requirement.
"I think we need to go down the route of hypersonic technology and we are moving in that direction and are not falling behind the Americans," he said on Rossiya 24 TV. "We will use this technology when developing a new bomber."
Long-range military aviation is vital to Russia and "the question is will we copy the Americans' forty-year experience and create a [Northrop] B-2 analog...or will we go down a new, ultramodern technology route, looking to the horizon, and create a machine able to penetrate air defenses and carry out a strike on any aggressor," he said.
Rogozin's latest comments come just days after a test of America's X-51 Waverider hypersonic unmanned test vehicle failed after a control fin broke up and the aircraft fell into the sea. The aim of the test was to prove Waverider could fly for around five minutes at hypersonic speed using a "scramjet" engine.
Russian Air Force Long Range Aviation commander Lt. Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev has previously said the first PAK-DA (an acronym for future long-range aircraft) bomber should enter service by around 2020, and its outline design is currently being devised. Russia's Tupolev design bureau, which designed most of Russia's serving bombers like the Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3 and Tu-160, is leading the program.
In June, President Vladimir Putin ordered initial development of the new long-range bomber for strategic aviation. Speaking during a conference on defense orders, Putin said: "We have to develop work on the new PAK-DA long-range bomber aircraft for Long-Range Aviation. The task is not easy from a scientific-technical standpoint, but we need to start work," Putin said.
Rogozin initially said in June he saw no need for PAK-DA to replace the air force's ageing Tu-95MS cruise-missile carriers and Tu-160 supersonic bombers.

"We just need a few examples, to decide what they are like and what advantages they have. Cooperation is possible on assembling armored vehicles, but this is only in the case of borrowing for those remaining areas where we lag behind," he added.
Buying the latest examples of foreign-made armor was impossible, he said.
