The United States is facing a growing threat of cyber attacks that could hit many of the country's infrastructure, warned Tuesday the head of the U.S. National Intelligence.
Referring to an increased risk for critical infrastructure of the United States, James Clapper said in an annual report to Congress on the security threats that cyber attacks, even rudimentary, could penetrate poorly protected computer networks, including those responsible for the power supply.
If it is real, threat, which focuses in particular on regional networks of electrical distribution, however, should not affect the country in the short term.
We believe that there is a slight chance of cyber attack on critical infrastructure of the United States in the
next two years could lead to large-scale disruptions of services, such as a regional power outage, the report said.
