Azerbaijani defense budget continues to rise

The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has announced a new Military expenditure growth for 2013, making no secret of the motivations for such an increase, since at the same time, he once again put on hold in Armenia the conflict that opposes Baku for Karabakh. Aliyev, whose remarks were published in editions of Wednesday, January 16 dailies official said the defense budget would rise this year to $ 3.7 billion, against $ 3 billion in 2012.

The announcement comes amid continuing tensions on the borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but also at a time when the Azerbaijani army has been unprecedented criticism in Azerbaijan. Saturday, January 12th, hundreds of people defied the power to manifest Azerbaijan in Baku to protest against the death of a conscript Azerbaijan 18 years
old in circontances disorders. The young conscript was abused in his unit, according to the protesters. President Aliyev took part indirectly in opposition, suspected by the government of orchestrating the event, warned against attempts to discredit the national army.
