South Korean military court has sentenced an army officer to a
suspended six-month prison term for tweeting what officials called
offensive remarks about President Lee Myung-bak.
A Defense Ministry official says an Army court on Friday convicted a captain surnamed Lee for posting offensive remarks about the president and his administration’s projects.
The official said the captain’s action is a breach of a
military law that bans offending a commander. The official spoke on
condition of anonymity because the ruling was not publicly released.

South Korean soldiers face North Korea’s 1.2 million troops across the world’s most heavily armed border. The Korean Peninsula is in a technical state of war because the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce.
