Hypersonic technologies: Russia creates a "superholding"

Russia will create a "superholding" responsible for controlling hypersonic technologies, announced Wednesday the Tula Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

"We found an acceptable solution for forming a superholding. The main idea of the project is to control hypersonic technologies," said M.Rogozine told reporters.

"The first step involves the creation of a large superholding groups on the basis of" Tactical missiles "(KTRV) and" Mechanical engineering "(NPO Machinostroenie)," he said.

NPO has Machinostroenie Indian partners in the bilateral project BrahMos which is the creation of supersonic cruise missiles.

The possibility of extended flight at hypersonic speeds (five to six times the speed of sound) would create weapons with unique properties. According M.Rogozine these properties "would significantly increase the effectiveness of weapons making them faster and invulnerable to interception systems, expanding their range in scope and altitude."

The U.S. military announced in November 2011 successfully tested the first concept vehicle Hypersonic Weapon peak (Advanced Hypersonic Weapon, AHW).

Russia launched research in the field of hypersonic weapon in the 1960s, but was interrupted with "perestroika". This work did not resume until 2009. In May, M.Rogozine regretted the delay that Russia accused the United States in this area.
