Program Scorpene submarines Indians: DCNS and SEC Industries are a new milestone


SEC Industries and DCNS have opened on 16 July of new infrastructure and ensured the delivery of equipment made in India for Indian Scorpene submarines P75 *. Compliance checks at the factory have been successfully passed.

The new premises were inaugurated by Shri MM Pallam Raju, Indian Minister of State for Defence. The French Ambassador in India, SE Francis Richier, as well as high Indian authorities, were present for the occasion.

In September 2011, DCNS India ** has announced the signing of a contract with SEC Industries for the manufacture of high technology equipment for Scorpene submarines P75. A second contract was signed in May 2012 for additional equipment. These contracts are part of a transfer of know-how and technology of DCNS. In this context, DCNS India operates manufacturing facilities in India for P75 submarines purchased by the customer site Mazagon (Mazagon Purchased Materials or MPM).

SEC supporting industries in its industrial development, DCNS has reached a new milestone for the Indian production equipment dedicated to submarines Scorpènes P75.

New industrial facilities

The new industrial means of SEC Industries are spread over 1,500 m2. The workshops incorporate modern production facilities for the production of various industrial activities such as blasting, sandblasting, welding and painting. New digital machines, benches and test fixtures - including a well for pressure testing-have been established. Also new is a section at a controlled temperature for storage of equipment and hardware.

Dedicated areas for the management of administrative tasks and training can accommodate in the best technicians and newly recruited engineers.

Equipment deliveries to the Indian Scorpènes

* Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) built the Scorpene conventional submarines (program P75) through a technology transfer DCNS. In parallel, DCNS India, the DCNS subsidiary based in Mumbai, working on the selection and qualification of Indian companies for local production equipment dedicated to Scorpènes. The first Indian Scorpene will be launched in late 2013 and commissioned in 2015. The sixth Scorpene will enter service in 2018.

** DCNS India Private Limited was officially inaugurated in March 2009 in Mumbai in March. The company specializes in services related to the shipbuilding sector. The main tasks of DCNS India are supporting the naval shipyards and industrial (Naval Technical Advice Department), provision of expertise through local teams (Design & Marine Engineering Department), production in India through Indian partners (Programme Department) and the development of a network of suppliers to meet regional and international industrial (Sourcing & Purchasing Department).
