Afghanistan, Ukraine and military capabilities menu NATO summit

The improvement of military capabilities of NATO, ISAF, the International Security Assistance Force and security in Afghanistan and relations with Ukraine are on the menu two days of discussions qu'auront ministers Defence of NATO in Brussels on 21 and 22 February.

Subsequently, the ministers will discuss military capabilities and defense planning process in NATO.Discussions will provide an opportunity to review progress on plans adopted last year at the NATO Summit in Chicago to improve the defense capabilities of allies and discuss next steps.

These talks will be followed by an informal dinner on defense issues.

Friday February 22, the ministers will begin work by a session of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, which will focus on how the NATO-Ukraine cooperation can improve their defense. The meeting will be the first opportunity for the ministers of NATO countries to meet their new new Ukrainian counterpart, Pavlo Lebedev.


Finally, representatives of 22 non-NATO ISAF partners but will join the defense ministers of NATO, the Afghan Defence Minister and representatives of the European Union and United Nations to discuss the mission in Afghanistan and the ongoing transfer of security responsibility to the Afghans. The meeting will include a presentation of the new ISAF commander, U.S. General Joseph Dunford, who took office on February 10.
